In Figure 6, the leg nearest the camera is doing the work. Placed slightly forward, his thigh is doing the hiding, whilst this pose allows the model to tense up and crunch his abs (something I am sadly no longer capable of!). The lights are placed slightly behind the model and aimed slightly forward with the main light pointing downwards; main and carve showing off the model's physique as intended.
Finally, in Figure 7, I used a flag to control the spill from the high main light whilst still allowing it to define the model's abdominal muscles.
There is no doubt in my mind that nude photography is a superb way to learn about the finer elements of posing as well as the added benefits of gaining knowledge of light as well as, but more importantly, shadow. In the next edition we shall use props within the implied nude genre looking at ways to do the implied bit for us.
