Hi, I'm Ruben 👋, a photographer based in Triq Sant Anton Abbati, Mosta, Malta, available for photography services across the surrounding areas.

"Life is beautiful" is the motto that guides and best describes the work of Maltese photographer Ruben Buhagiar, who was born in 1970 and originates from Mosta, Malta.
Ruben is a passionate advocate for new practices and developments in photography while remaining committed to preserving photography as an art form. Through his lectures, presentations, and photographic work, he has developed a distinctive style that has been described as romantic expressionism.
Ruben's images invite the viewer to become part of the photograph. There is often a story, a message, or what he describes as a "fourth dimension" within his work. His style is bold and sharp, with a subtle sense of irony, capturing the atmosphere of a situation and often incorporating a street-photographic and photojournalistic approach centred around the idea of the "decisive moment".
Other projects explore a more dreamy, conceptual, and sometimes surreal style, while remaining rooted in reality. Ruben finds inspiration in everyday life and the ordinary elements that surround us, creating thought-provoking images that encourage viewers to look again at things they may have seen or experienced themselves.
Ruben has exhibited his work extensively, with several major projects developing into exhibitions and publications. His TKECNIR: Kitchen Stories project began with an exhibition in Mdina, Malta, in 2011 and continued to evolve through subsequent exhibitions and publications.
His work has also featured in projects including AXIS MUNDI, exhibited at Malta House in Brussels, as well as VIVA l-VITORJA and THREE STORIES. Other photographic works have appeared in a variety of publications, accompanying articles and demonstrating his distinctive approach to photography.
An engineer by profession, Ruben is also a keen traveller with a deep fascination for history and culture. These interests strongly influence his photography and his exploration of people and everyday life.
His approach is to immerse himself in the world he photographs, becoming part of the environment rather than simply observing it from the outside. Through his work, Ruben invites others to participate too – to look, feel, question, and discover the beauty within everyday life.
Life is beautiful, after all.
