Hello! I’m Emma Joanne, aka Shotgun Weddings – an edgy, boundary-pushing and rule-breaking wedding photographer and photo booth facilitator based between Brighton and the wider UK.
I specialise in alternative and unconventional wedding photography for couples who want something different from traditional wedding photography. My approach is creative, spontaneous, imaginative and deliberately left of centre, creating bold images that reflect who you really are.
I’m open to whoever you are and whatever you represent. Straight, gay, queer or simply curious – it makes no difference to me. I believe weddings should be about celebrating your relationship without having to fit into somebody else’s idea of what a wedding should look like.

My photography is edgy, adventurous, spontaneous and full of personality. I love pushing the traditional boundaries of wedding photography and creating images with humour, energy and a little bit of attitude.
I take what I do seriously, but I don't believe that means weddings have to be serious all the time. Laughter and spontaneity are a huge part of my approach, helping couples relax and giving me the freedom to create something genuinely different.
One of my biggest influences, photographer John Farrar, once told me that “laughter is the key to unleashing creativity”. It’s an idea that has stayed with me throughout my photography career.
Photography has been part of my life from an early age. My dad, who is also a photographer, passed down his Nikon film cameras and lenses and encouraged me to follow his passion for photography.
Moving from film to digital photography completely changed the way I approached image-making. Digital photography gave me the freedom to experiment, take risks and continually push the boundaries of what I could create.
After years of photographing weddings, I decided to turn that approach into a defined niche – creating a wedding photography experience with more edge, personality and creative freedom. That was how Shotgun Weddings was born.
I’m based between Brighton and the wider UK, but I’m always happy to travel for couples and weddings that inspire me. Whether you're planning an intimate celebration, an alternative wedding or a completely unconventional day, I want to create photographs that reflect your personality rather than somebody else's expectations.
I also offer photo booth services, adding another fun and creative element to your wedding or event.
