Specialist: Studio and Landscape Portraiture

I count as one of my strengths self motivation and I respond to new challenges. Whenever I can always seek to plan in advance, particularly when working in the landscape (but will throw away the script if circumstances dictate) including street photography.

My style of portrait photography is designed to capture the essence of a person in ways that appear natural without recourse to extensive retouching.

As an individual I am quiet but have the ability to communicate well and build trust with individuals from all backgrounds; the result of previous careers.

My interest in photography started in 1959 when I was given a Kodak Brownie and a 127 film. Involvement has not however been constant I only returned to it a few years ago kindled by after starting life drawing classes. What particularly interested me was the way light and shape blended together.

Having no formal training in photography I have been guided by friends and colleagues in developing my skills. In addition I have become a member of SWPP and SIFGP attending regularly master and super classes with senior professionals including, amongst others (in alphabetical order) John Denton, Rick Friedman, and Trevor and Faye Yerby. They have all inspired and stimulated my desire to be more creative in approach as well as providing guidance on what I need to master technically. SWPP as an organisation has impressed me over the years by the way those well established photographers have share there knowledge and skills.

On a personal note I am married with two grown up children who have flown the nest, and live on the Isle of Wight although I do regularly travel in pursuit of photography. Photography is my fourth career which has included health service management, lecturing in business and management and consultancy on EU projects in countries from the Baltic to the Balkans. When I am not behind the camera or computer I like to both read and write. Even here photography has a role in that some of my writing have required working with professional models in illustrating the work; just like the books of old.

Recently I have been entering British Photographic Exhibition (BPE) competitions and have already had acceptance on several of my images. Hopefully more will follow.

In the future, who knows, but what I would like to do is to develop my skills further and work on longer term projects.
