The Motorbike On Location
There's no reason why you should confine yourself to just shooting indoors when using studio lights. Indeed there are countless variations of lights and power packs available on the market both to buy and rent that will enable you to go off-piste should you fancy a change of scenery.
The shots here were taken at dusk in the car park of a newly built industrial estate. A single strobe with a 15cm reflector dish was used about three to four metres away from the model and the ambient light filled in the background.
If you're working with balancing ambient and studio lighting for the first time, a good rule of thumb is to control the ambient light with your shutter speed and the strobe light with your aperture settings.
