Finally I set up two rim lights, one either side of Lotte. These were behind her and angled back towards the camera and set at eye height to give rim light to the face and shoulders. Both were fitted with simple reflector dishes. They were metered at f18 to be slightly dimmer and not over power the key light.

The background was a roll of Storm Grey seamless and the only other pieces of kit were a smoke machine (£35 from Maplin) and a California Sunbounce with a silver cover on.

All this was set up whilst Lotte finished her make-up so that as soon as she was ready she could walk onto the 'set' and I could start shooting.
